M. Lou et Ja. Rial, APPLICATION OF THE WAVELET TRANSFORM IN DETECTING MULTIPLE EVENTS OF MICROEARTHQUAKE SEISMOGRAMS, Geophysical research letters, 22(16), 1995, pp. 2199-2202
The Wavelet Transform (WT) is employed here to discriminate multiple e
vents contained in microearthquake. The WT decomposes the signal into
well localized time - frequency compartments (or ''Heisenberg boxes'')
that display the energy distribution over the time and frequency doma
ins simultaneously, therefore providing a useful technique to characte
rize dispersion and attenuation of a seismic signal, as well as to ide
ntify multiple interfering events. This letter suggests that the WT co
uld provide a useful tool to analyze complicated seismic signals, espe
cially to detect the multiple events contained in microearthquake seis
mograms.
