S. Kashubeck et Sa. Christensen, PARENTAL ALCOHOL-USE, FAMILY RELATIONSHIP QUALITY, SELF-ESTEEM, AND REPRESSION IN COLLEGE-STUDENTS, Journal of college student development, 36(5), 1995, pp. 431-443
Family relationship quality, not parental alcohol use, predicted level
s of depression and self-esteem in 201 college students. Witnessing sp
ousal abuse was related to increased depression in adult children of a
lcoholics, while poorer family relationship quality was associated wit
h lower self-esteem, suggesting that the experience of paternal alcoho
lism is not uniform among offspring.
