Analysis of faeces deposited by common wombats, Vombatus ursinus, in n
ative eucalypt forest and pine plantations of various ages, shows that
grasses are the dominant food eaten in both forest types regardless o
f the Varying availability of this type of vegetation. Other vegetatio
n, such as rushes, bark, roots and pine needles, are also eaten, parti
cularly in areas where grasses are less common.
