Continuous radio wave monitoring of the Leonid meteoroid stream during
November 12-21, 1994, has been carried out by using a forward-scatter
bistatic radar operating over the Bologna-Lecce baseline in Italy. An
enhanced activity starting from November 18 was observed to continue
up to November 21. Hourly distribution for different echo duration cla
sses shows that this activity is mainly due to underdense meteors. Nev
ertheless, there is also a peak due to overdense meteors on November 2
0. This enhancement in activity of radio meteors, stronger than in vis
ual observations, suggests that the Earth encountered in 1994 the vang
uard of P/Tempel-Tuttle comet material.
