St. Davidge et al., PREGNANCY-INDUCED ELEVATION IN AORTIC VASCULAR SMOOTH-MUSCLE ACTIN INTHE SPRAGUE-DAWLEY RAT, American journal of obstetrics and gynecology, 176(1), 1997, pp. 212-213
A component of hemodynamic responses during pregnancy may include stru
ctural changes in the arterial tree. Smooth muscle alpha-actin is a ma
jor structural-contractile protein of muscle cells. We observed a mark
ed increase in expression of actin during pregnancy in the rat aorta,
suggesting a structural alteration of conduit arteries.
