Radiolytic studies on sanazole, an effecient hypoxic cell radiosensiti
zer generally referred to as AK-2123, revealed that its reactions with
e(aq)(-) and OH radicals yield transients with lambda(max) at 295 and
290 nm and their respective bi-molecular rate constants are 3.6 x 10(
10) dm(3) mol(-1) s(-1) and 1.55 x 10(8) dm(3) mol(-1) s(-1). Prelimin
ary studies on steady state gamma radiolysis of the drug in presence o
f uracil indicate electron transfer from the pyrimidine base to AK-212
