Md. Rouhani et al., COMPUTER OPTIMIZATION OF MULTISPECTRAL SOLAR-CELLS BASED ON GAAS AND HG1-XCDXTE, Physica status solidi. a, Applied research, 150(2), 1995, pp. 773-782
The performance of a monolithic two-solar-cell tandem is studied. The
geometrical and physical parameters of the two cells connected in seri
es are determined for optimum operation of the device. The chemical co
mposition of the infrared sensitive Hg1-xCdxTe solar cell is x = 0.53
with an energy gap of 0.6 eV. The maximum efficiency of the tandem und
er AM1 solar radiation is found to be 30%, with contributions of 25% a
nd 5% from the GaAs and Hg1-xCdxTe solar cells, respectively. However,
sophisticated technologies are needed to achieve this efficiency.
