We have been searching for the functional meaning of Danubian Lowland
landscape elements (7 non-agricultural habitats) from the point of occ
urrence of syrphidofauna, mainly the representatives of aphidophagous
species. Aphidophags were the prevailing trophic subgroup nearly on al
l habitats. The species Episyrphus balteatus and Sphaerophoria scripta
achieved the eudominant and dominant representation within these habi
tats. The greatest occurrence of Episyrphus balteatus was observed on
the habitats with the representation of timber species. Sphaerophoria
scripta occurrence on these habitats is determined by the richness of
the herbaceous vegetation. From what was stated above it follows that
we could create prerequisities for the hoverflies concentration (mainl
y for the two presented species) for the needs of their possible usage
in preventive biological control of agricultural cultures by an appro
priate combination of timber and herbaceous vegetation.
