Abstract
We show that the geometric phase arising from a conical intersection o f the lowest potential energy surfaces of HO2 causes its bending vibra tional wave functions to be double-valued, which enables them to be lo cally symmetric on one side of the intersection and locally antisymmet ric on the other.
