Abstract
By means of a convergent synthesis strategy, the title substance (Z)-7 -oxa-beta-santalol (4) was prepared starting with the side chain synth on 5-iodo-2-methyl-2-pentenylmethoxyethoxymethyl ether (7) and the bic yclic synthon ethyl hylene-7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-2-carboxylate (5). The new santalol analogue 4 is odorless, although the steric req uirements for the sandalwood odor are met. The reasons for this are di scussed.
