A new organic semiconductor, (ET)(6)[Pb(3)Br(9)PhCiMe(2)CO], which is
the first radical cation salt based on bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiaful
valene (ET) with a lead-containing anion, has been synthesized. The co
mposition and crystal and molecular structure of this compound have be
en established by X-ray structural analysis. The crystal structure can
be described as a layer structure. A new alpha''' type of packing of
ET radical cations has been found in the conducting layer. The anionic
layer consists of [Pb3Br93-](n) polymeric anions and chlorobenzene an
d acetone solvate molecules bonded to polymeric anions through Br...H-
C hydrogen bonds.
