Abstract
A new shear angle relationships was analysed with reference to a shear friction factor m in shearing processes on the shear plane and the to ol rake face. The theoretical formula are shown to be in good agreemee nt with experimental cutting data. The currently developed theoretical equations represent further generalized cutting process. It is found that Lee and shaffer's equation is a special solution of the presented equations. The shear friction factor m shows a clear description of m achining characteristics of metals. It was also found that the factor m establishs a new shear angle relationships together with cutting con ditions and tool geometry.
