Abstract
The realization of a NOR logic gate array is reported. The elementary structure is a nonlinear waveguide in silicon-on-sapphire. Using therm al optical nonlinearities, optical switching from an off-resonance sta te to resonance on a guided mode is obtained in the nonlinear regime. NOR operation has been demonstrated and fan-in of at feast two has bee n measured. Two gates have been interconnected, an a fan-out greater t han two has been determined.
