Dk. Hunter et I. Andonovic, GUIDED-WAVE OPTICAL SWITCH ARCHITECTURES .1. SPACE SWITCHING, International journal of optoelectronics, 9(6), 1994, pp. 477-487
Guided wave optical switching has been in existence for well over a de
cade and, at present, several architectures exist that could become ca
ndidates for use in optical systems. This paper will review optical sp
ace switching architectures, highlighting their performance parameters
. Issues peculiar to optical implementation such as crosstalk, wavegui
de interface losses and attenuation will be considered. A similar trea
tment for optical time division switching will be presented in an acco
mpanying paper.
