Abstract
A study of the reactions of Cp(2)Ti(13)CH(3)Cl and Cp(2)Ti(CH3)(2) wit h AlMe(3) (TMA) and/or methylaluminoxane (MAO) and of the C-13 90% enr iched ethylene polymerization in situ in the presence of the same cata lytic systems has been made by C-13 NMR spectroscopy. The NMR data hav e been compared with the catalytic activity. Active cation-like specie s such as Cp(2)TiMe(+)Cl .[AlMeO](-)(n) and Cp(2)TiMe(+)Me .[AlMeO](-) (n) and side products have been identified. The role of ''free'' and ' 'associated'' AlMe(3), contained in MAO solutions, has been elucidated .
