Agrobacterium tumefaciens induced transgenosis by treatment of germina
ting Arabidopsis thaliana seed embryos has been achieved with differen
t Agrobacterium strains including the strain LBA4404, which was ineffe
ctive in seed transformation experiments of the other authors. The fre
quency of transgenosis was increased several times by application of a
cetosyringone to the growing A. tumefaciens suspension cultures. The D
NA demethylating agent 5-azacytidine partly restored the distorted Men
delian segregation ratios in the offspring of transgenic plants.
