Single crystals of the new compound Cu2Cd(B2O5)O have been prepared by
B2O3/V2O5 flux technique in a closed silver tube. Their structure is
isotypic with Cu2Co(B2O5)O but its preparation is quite different. X-r
ay investigations on single crystals led to the space group C-2h(5)-P2
(1)/c (Nr. 14), a = 339.9(2); b = 1509.8(2); c = 927,0(1) pm; beta = 9
3.19(1)degrees; Z = 4. The structure contains isolated B2O5 groups and
oxygen that is not coordinated to boron. Cadmium is octahedrally coor
dinated by oxygen, while copper exhibits a nearly square planar or a f
ivefold pyramidal coordination.
