Pl. Giacalone et al., HIGH-DOSE CHEMOTHERAPY WITH AUTOLOGOUS BONE-MARROW TRANSPLANTATION FOR REFRACTORY METASTATIC GESTATIONAL TROPHOBLASTIC DISEASE, Gynecologic oncology, 58(3), 1995, pp. 383-385
A patient with gestational trophoblastic disease failed to respond to
all standard multiple-agent chemotherapy and had progressive uterine d
isease. Total hysterectomy also proved ineffective. We therefore admin
istered high-dose cyclophosphamide, etoposide, and melphalan with auto
logous bone marrow support. Severe marrow suppression followed but a c
omplete remission was achieved and the patient remains free of disease
3 years after the completion of therapy, This result seems to confirm
the value of using high-dose multiagent therapy to optimize the dose-
effect of therapy regimens on drug-refractory gestational trophoblasti
c disease. (C) 1995 Academic Press, Inc.
