M. Kauranen et al., QUANTITATIVE-DETERMINATION OF ELECTRIC AND MAGNETIC 2ND-ORDER SUSCEPTIBILITY TENSORS OF CHIRAL SURFACES, Physical review. B, Condensed matter, 55(4), 1997, pp. 1985-1988
We present a measurement technique to determine the relative values of
ail components of the three tensors that describe second-harmonic gen
eration from chiral isotropic surfaces up to first order in the magnet
ic-dipole interaction. For a thin film of a chiral polymer, the larges
t tensor components involving magnetic interactions are nonvanishing o
nly because of chirality and their magnitudes are similar to 20% of th
e largest electric-dipole-only components. These chiral magnetic compo
nents are larger than the chiral electric component.
