Abstract
Energy transfer from optically excited Dy3+ to Ho3+ has been observed in zinc phosphate glass. The study is primarily done by observing the decrease in emission from the F-4(9/2) level of Dy3+ with varying Ho3 concentration. The energy transfer mechanism is mainly found to be el ectric dipole-dipole in nature. Transfer probabilities, efficiencies a nd average donor-acceptor distances have been calculated.
