Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), refractive index, Raman spectro
scopy and density measurements were used to investigate the xGd(2)O(3)
.(1 - x)Na2O . 2B(2)O(3) glass system with x less than or equal to 0.
10. EPR data proved the formation of Gd-O-Gd dimers with increasing ga
dolinium oxide content. The line width of the EPR absorption peak at g
approximate to 6 and the refractive index of the xGd(2)O(3) .(1 - x)N
a2O . 2B(2)O(3) glass system present a similar behaviour as a function
of the gadolinium oxide content. This behaviour was explained conside
ring the process of Gd-O-Gd dimer formation.
