Properties of a new type of adsorbents - carboaerosils prepared from p
yrogenic silica and products of methylene chloride pyrolysis - were st
udied. The effect of the amount of carbon deposited on the silica surf
ace on the sorptive and electric properties and the pore structure wer
e determined. Highly-dispersed carbon-silica powders with specific sur
face area > 147 m(2)/g and particle diameter < 185 Angstrom were obtai
ned. Carboaerosils were characterized by increased adsorption activity
compared with unmodified silica, and provide new electric properties.
