O. Ruau et al., A NEW TECHNIQUE FOR ORGANIC-MATTER ANALYS IS BY TRANSMISSION INFRAREDMICROSPECTROSCOPY, Comptes rendus de l'Academie des sciences. Serie II. Sciences de la terre et des planetes, 321(3), 1995, pp. 201-208
A new sample preparation technique has been developed for the analysis
of powdered sedimentary organic matter by transmission infrared micro
spectroscopy. The resulting spectra are compared to those from (i) sta
ndard bulk infrared analysis and (ii) transmission infrared microspect
roscopy using a diamond anvil cell. Infrared microspectroscopy leads t
o spectra of greater quality than the bulk method, permitting studies
of OH bands even when using small quantity of pure organic matter. Thi
s new technique is applied to the characterization of a low-rank coal
subjected to sequential confined pyrolysis.
