La. Sullivan, MICROTRENCHES AND MICRORIDGES ON THE ACCRETIVE STRUCTURAL SURFACES OFSOME CLAYEY SOILS, Australian Journal of Soil Research, 33(4), 1995, pp. 565-568
Microtrenches (trenches up to 8 mu m wide) and microridges (ridges up
to 20 mu m wide) have been observed during scanning electron microscop
ic studies of accretive structural pore surfaces in clayey soils. Micr
otrenches may form by the partial burial of hyphae during clay deposit
ion followed by the lysis or removal of the hyphae, whereas microridge
s may be formed by complete burial of hyphae during clay deposition.
