Mv. Root et al., DIABETES-MELLITUS ASSOCIATED WITH PANCREATIC ENDOCRINE INSUFFICIENCY IN A KITTEN, Journal of Small Animal Practice, 36(9), 1995, pp. 416-420
Diabetes mellitus, characterised by persistent hyperglycaemia and gluc
osuria, was diagnosed in a six-week-old kitten. Pancreatic sections co
ntained low numbers of atypically small islets and immunohistochemistr
y demonstrated pancreatic endocrine insufficiency with virtually no pr
oduction of any islet hormones. There was no inflammatory infiltration
of the islets, as seen in the form of diabetes mellitus characteristi
c of juvenile humans.
