An alternative technique of coincidence between energy-selected electr
ons and mass- and energy-selected photoions, combined with angle-resol
ved photoion spectroscopy, has been applied to investigate the state-s
elected dissociation dynamics of the B 1s core-excited BF3 molecule. D
issociation from the spectator Auger final states both above and below
the double-ionization threshold produces energetic B+ in the secondar
y processes of stepwise dissociation after the molecular deformation (
D-3h-->C-3 nu, in marked contrast to dissociation following B 1s ioniz
ation in which energetic F+ is ejected within the D-3h plane of the pa
rent BF3 molecule.
