D. Ohare et al., ORIENTATION OF COBALTOCENIUM CATIONS INTERCALATED INTO THE V2O5.1.6H(2)O XEROGEL DETERMINED BY SOLID-STATE H-2 NMR-SPECTROSCOPY, Journal of materials chemistry, 5(9), 1995, pp. 1383-1390
The orientations of [Co(C5D5)(2)](+) ions intercalated in the xerogel
V2O5 . 1.6H(2)O have been studied using solid-state H-2 NMR spectrosco
py. The cobaltocenium ions in microcrystalline samples of V2O5{Co(C5D5
)(2)}(0.2)(H2O)(0.5) are observed to be held rigidly in the lattice at
all temperatures up to 450 K. Studies on oriented thin films of this
intercalation compound have shown that the guest ions are arranged wit
h their principal C-5-molecular axes oriented parallel to the V2O5 lay
ers. A small angular deviation in the orientations of the [Co(C5D5)(2)
](+) cations from the parallel direction is observed; this is thought
to arise from stacking faults within the host lattice.
