The effects of sublethal concentrations (1/5th, 1/10th and 1/15th frac
tions of 96 hour LC(50) of chlordane (organochlorine pesticide) and ma
lathion (organophosphate pesticide) were studied on certain haematolog
ical parameters of Notopterus notopterus after 30 days of exposure. Am
ong the parameters examined the exposed fish exhibited higher values o
f prothrombin time (PT), white blood corpuscles (WBC), and packed cell
volume (PCV). However, the values of clotting time (CT) was found to
be decreased due to pesticide intoxication. The concentrations assesse
d did not have impact on gonado-somatic index (GSI), erythrocyte sedim
entation rate (ESR), mean corpuscular heamoglobin (MCH), mean cell vol
ume (MCV) and hepatosomatic index (HSI) as evidenced by Student 't' te
