Overwrite in particulate tape media is studied utilizing a micromagnet
ic simulation model, Seven different media, including traditional thic
k tape and thin metal-particle tape, are simulated to study the effect
of tape thickness and demagnetizing ratio on overwrite, Recording hea
d parameters, such as the record gap, the record current, and head-med
ium spacing, are analyzed for overwrite in the thick tape media, An an
alytical formula is developed to describe the overwrite ratio as a fun
ction of the frequency ratio before and after overwrite.
