Y. Hirayama et al., DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH-RESOLUTION AND LOW-NOISE SINGLE-LAYERED PERPENDICULAR RECORDING MEDIA FOR HIGH-DENSITY RECORDING, IEEE transactions on magnetics, 33(1), 1997, pp. 996-1001
Single-layered perpendicular recording media with high resolution and
low noise characteristics, which can be used for 10 Gb/in(2) level mag
netic recording, have been developed. Noise characteristics of highly
oriented CoCr19Pt10 media are improved, by employing CoCr35/TiCr10 dua
l-underlayer, by reducing magnetic crystal grain diameter, and by addi
ng Ta to the magnetic layer. A linear recording density resolution (D-
50) value of 260 kFCI and a S-o/N ratio of 36 dB are confirmed for the
low noise 50-nm-thick CoCr19Pt10Ta2 dual-underlayer medium using a fl
ying MR head at magnetic spacing of 40 nm.
