M. Laurain et al., GENETIC PROCESSES AT THE ORIGIN OF SLOPE FORMATIONS WITH CHALKY GRAVEL IN CHAMPAGNE, Permafrost and periglacial processes, 6(2), 1995, pp. 103-108
In Champagne, stratified chalky slope deposits, locally known as grave
luche, are frequent. They consist of calcareous blocks, 2-3 mm to 1-2
cm in size, within a silty matrix. There is an alternation between lit
s gras and fits maigres (i.e. fine and coarser beds). Three explanatio
ns are proposed: eolian deposition, solifluction from upslope, and a g
ravity flow of some sort.
