A methodological critique was conducted of all full-length articles hi
ghlighting American racial and ethnic minority groups or international
populations appearing in the Journal of Employment Counseling, The Ca
reer Development Quarterly, and the Journal of Vocational Behavior fro
m 1985 through 1992. The 68 quantitative, empirically based studies id
entified were examined for their theoretical bases, topical emphases,
multicultural populations investigated, sample descriptions, sample si
zes, geographic location of the samples, instrumentation, and statisti
cal procedures used. The results are discussed in light of the critici
sms of the general multicultural counseling research delineated in rec
ent counseling literature.
