K. Smiataczowa et al., DISSOCIATION-CONSTANTS OF CARBOXYLIC-ACIDS AND PHENOLS IN METHANOL DETERMINED BY THE CATALYTIC METHOD, Polish Journal of Chemistry, 69(9), 1995, pp. 1306-1314
Catalytic constants, k(c), have been determined for the weak acid-cata
lyzed mutarotation reaction of N-(p-chlorophenyl)-beta-D-glucopyranosy
loamine in methanol, at 25 degrees C. The Bronsted law of catalysis ha
s been exploited for calculation of new dissociation constants of a nu
mber of carboxylic acids and phenols in methanol. A correlation has be
en established between the dissociation constants in methanol, pK(aM),
and those in water, pK(aW). The pK(a)W values of benzoic acids have b
een correlated with Hammett's substituent constants, sigma, and with t
he polar constants of ortho-substituents, sigma(0).
