The essential oils of leaves and flowers from Bellis perennis, the com
mon daisy, have been investigated. Polyacetylenes were one of the majo
r chemical classes (18-21%) mainly consisting of two new C-10 acetylen
ic compounds which were identified, by spectroscopic and chemical mean
s, as methyl deca-4,6-diynoate (2,8-tetrahydromatricaria ester) and de
ca-4,6-diynoic acid.
