Nine types of suspended materials varying widely in their characters h
ave been considered in this study to explore the effect of the suspend
ed solids concentration and their characteristics on turbidity measure
ments. Expressions have been developed for the different types of susp
ended materials relating the turbidity with suspended solids concentra
tion and their characteristics. Such expressions can also be used to d
etermine the suspended solids concentration through turbidity measurem
ent which is a simple, rapid and more convenient method compared to th
e cumbersome, tiring and time consuming gravimetric method of estimati
on of suspended solids concentration.
