Ps. Rao et al., A NUMERICAL SCHEME FOR HYDRODYNAMIC LUBRICATION OF SYNOVIAL-FLUID, Indian Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics, 26(8), 1995, pp. 831-835
In recent years considerable attention is paid by researchers on the s
tudies of human locomotion. Morrison(1) studied physiological models f
or the evaluation of muscle forces, Hogan(2) studied the mechanics of
multi-joint posture and movements, Bizzi et al.(3) studied the effect
of load disturbances during movements and Hardt(4) studied the muscle
forces in the leg during normal human walking In this paper the effect
of thin film of synovial Newtonian fluid contained between slider bea
rings, which consists of nearly two parallel plates of length L at ver
y short distance h apart is studied. An interesting observation is tha
t there are no large scale fluctuations in velocity along any normal c
ross section of the lower plate. A critical Reynold number for the pro
blem under consideration is found to be 600, beyond which the load is
found to increase abnormally. This brings to light, one of the importa
nt results for the rupture of joints.
