In contrast, azithromycin is much more act ive against intracellular L. pneumophila than is erythromycin, In a gu inea pig model of Legionnaires' disease, azithromycin is much more act ive than is erythromycin or clarithromycin. Despite the paucity of rep orts of treatment of Legionnaires' disease with azithromycin, it is li kely to be as or more effective than erythromycin.
