Transport extraction based on solvent sublation has been proposed for
separation and preconcentration of trace analytes from aqueous solutio
ns. The experimental capabilities of this method were investigated usi
ng a complex of molecular iodine with ionic surfactants. A comparison
of transport extraction with conventional solvent extraction was also
made. The theoretical principles of transport extraction have been rev
ealed and the basic difference between these two extractive separation
s has been explained. The results showed that the non-equilibrium natu
re of transport extraction gives it some distinctive advantages over e
quilibrium solvent extraction.
