Recently developed photoconductive polymer systems, polyparacyclophane
s doped with low-molecular-weight accepters, combine high charge carri
er mobility provided by extended pi-electron systems along cofacially
arrayed aromatic rings, with effective photogeneration in visible rang
e due to formation of charge-transfer complexes with the dopants. In a
series of polyparacyclophane complexed with different benzoquinones i
t was found that the photoconductivity gain coefficient in the visible
range increases with increasing electron affinity of the dopant and t
hat the gain coefficient is higher for higher dopant concentration. Th
e influence of the charge-transfer complex formation between various p
olyparacyclophanes and various accepters on the charge carrier generat
ion both in tile dark and under illumination is discussed.
