Abstract
We investigated of some agronomical characters for 98 cucumber cultiva rs, mainly native or raised ones in Japan. To evaluate the type of the pistillate flower formation, we adopted the principal component analy sis using the number of female flowers. By principal component analysi s, two major phases were extracted. The distribution of two scores cal culated from the first and second principal component was continuous a nd there were not correlation between the morphological characters and the number of fruiting, except between Zz score and number of first l ateral shoots. On the other hand, the number of fruiting was correlate d with the leaf size. It was interesting that there were no cultivars with high fruiting ability and small leaf.
