The electronic emission spectrum of CoF was observed in the 820 nm to
3.5 mu m spectral region using a Fourier transform spectrometer. The b
ands were excited in a carbon tube furnace by the reaction of cobalt m
etal vapor and CF4 at a temperature of about 2300 degrees C. The obser
ved bands in the 9000-12 500 cm(-1) region have been classified into t
hree transitions with 0-0 bands at 10 340, 10 289, and 10 161 cm(-1) a
ssigned as the (3) Phi(4)-(3) Phi(4), (3) Phi(3)-(3) Phi(3), and (3) P
hi(2)-(3) Phi(2) subbands of a new [10.3](3) Phi(i)-X(3) Phi(i) electr
onic transition, respectively. The rotational analysis of 12 (3) Phi(4
)-(3) Phi(4) bands, 5 (3) Phi(3)-(3) Phi(3) bands, and 3 (3) Phi(2)-(3
) Phi(2) bands has been performed, and effective equilibrium constants
for each spin component have been extracted. The equilibrium vibratio
nal and rotational constants for the lowest X(3) Phi(4) spin component
are: omega(c) = 678.1817(19) cm(-1), w(c)x(c) = 2.73967(84) cm(-1), B
-c = 0.3894797(34) cm(-1), alpha(c) = 0.0025984(45) cm(-1), and r(c) =
