Abstract
Measurements of line broadening and lineshifts induced by collisions w ith He, Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe for absorption lines of the nu(1) + 3 nu(3) band of H2O and the nu(1) and nu(3) bands of SO2 were performed by ap plying laser photoacoustic and diode laser spectroscopy. A modified ve rsion of the Anderson-Tsao-Curnutte theory, neglecting Anderson's inte rrupting, was employed for the description of the collisional half-wid th and shift behavior of the spectral lines in the case of dipole mole cule interactions with noble gas atoms. The comparison of the experime ntal and calculated data shows that the derived formulae describe prec isely the behavior of broadening and shift coefficients and their depe ndence on the polarizabilities of the perturbing atoms and of the abso rbing molecule.
