We present a case in which a blunt external trauma caused a perforatin
g wound in the hypopharynx without any superficial damage on the skin
of the neck, Deep cervical emphysema and general signs of systemic inf
ection followed. The wound was sutured through an endoscope and the pa
tient recovered uneventfully. The importance of the early diagnosis is
emphasized.
