Abstract
The classic cytological term ''homootypisch'' (''Theilungsform'') by F LEMMING (1887), is rightly translated into the English ''homoeotypic'' , which is preferable to the alternative and acceptable form ''homeoty pic''. Both prefixes ''homoeo-'' and ''homeo-'' derive from the Greek o mu o iota oc = ''similar'', ''like''. By contrast, the common tenden cy to accept the expression ''homotypic division'', should be avoided as a misnomer, because the prefix ''homo'' derives from the Greek o mu oc = ''the same''.
