Abstract
Southern analysis of the genomic DNA from species of the family Entero bacteriaceae, using a probe derived from the Escherichia coli araE gen e, which encodes an arabinose-H+ symporter, detected araE in Salmonell a, Citrobacter, Klebsiella, and Enterobacter spp. The Klebsiella oxyto ca araE gene was cloned, sequenced, and expressed to compare its prope rties with those of araE from E. coli.
