The,dielectric behaviors of a ferrofluid subjected to a magnetic field
are discussed theoretically on the basis of the model of dynamically
chain-growing process with increase of the magnetic field. The model,
which is an expansion of the former model of stationarily chain-growin
g process, is put forward by defining the anisotropy of the ferrofluid
as a function of the magnetic field. Thus, the dielectric constant ma
trix of a ferrofluid subjected to a magnetic field can be established.
Some theoretical calculations about the field dependencies of both th
e refractive indices and the transmission coefficients in the two dire
ctions, parallel and perpendicular to the field direction, are carried
out for different particle concentrations of the ferrofluid and concl
