InCl3 has been reacted at low temperature with LiBH4. Formation of an
indium tetrahydroborate species is proposed which decomposes at room t
emperature leading to a very active form of metallic indium. The react
ion between InI3 and LiBH4, carried out in diethyl ether at room tempe
rature, initially gives insoluble InI together with an unidentified so
luble species which also finally decomposes to InI by concentrating th
e solution. (CH3)(2)InCl reacts at room temperature with NaBH4; H-1 NM
R spectra indicate formation of (CH3)(2)InBH4.
