Abstract
The temperature dependence of photoexcited carrier relaxation in insul ating and metallic YBa2Cu3O7-delta and La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 suggests that carriers relax towards equilibrium by hopping between localized states . The implication is that in the optimally doped superconducting phase , localized states and extended states cc-exist. The findings confirm the polaronic interpretation of the MIR band in the optical conductivi ty.
