The aggregation of symmetrical sodium triphenylbenzenesulfonate and it
s corresponding acid in aqueous solutions has been studied conductimet
rically. The CMC and degree of ionization of the purely aromatic amphi
phile have been determined from the conductivity versus molality plots
. The data for the premicellar region indicate the existence of oligom
eric species, presumably dimers. Results of quasi-elastic light scatte
ring measurements on dilute solutions of the sulfonate in 0.01 M NaCl
indicate pronounced aggregation of the species.
