Abstract
A nonlinear theory determining the conditions of existence and the str ucture of the stationary striations generated in the ionospheric modif ications by powerful radio waves is proposed. The structure of the den sity depletions and its characteristic length, width, and depth are sh own to be in agreement with observations. A strong enhancement of the electron temperature inside the striations is predicted.
